The coatings encompass a wide range of materials ranging from aluminum polyester used in abradable
surfaces mainly in cooler compressor sections of the engine to zirconium oxide used as a Thermal Barrier Coating (TBC) in the combustor and hot section of the
engine. Plasma sprayed components include shafts that are sprayed with a dry film lubricant or polyester aluminum bronze, components such as the Cylinder Ass'y require a wear surface coating of chromium
carbide. Component parts subject to oxidation are given surface treatment in the form of painting such as the L.P. Compressor Housing, which is made from an
iron base material that is subsequently painted to avoid rusting.
Colonial Coatings Corp. supported and performed
repairs in accordance with MRRS-GT's for the Military Overhaul Center then located in Stratford, CT., by removing, replacing existing discrepant coating and/or
surfaces and returning component parts back to their original blueprint dimensional requirements employing vendor assists on the machining requirements. This
typical repair procedure has been an ongoing effort in the support of spare parts and damaged components to date.
